Survival Stories

Although we hope it never happens, students have had to use the skills they learned from their ISR lessons in real world situations.  Here are a couple of their stories.

Our 2 year old son, Ty, was two weeks shy of finishing his initial roll-to-float lessons when we got a first hand demonstration of how well ISR works. Here's our story:

We had our son in swim lessons with the (xxxxx) Swim school for a few months when my husband told me that he was actually getting worse in the water-more clingy and less secure. We took him out immediately and were trying to find a new swim program when we received an email from a friend showing the video of Miles. We knew it was exactly what we were looking for. We signed him up and began lessons right away.

A month later my mother-in-law was playing with my son near their pool and got distracted by someone else for a split second. Just as she turned her attention back to him she started to scream as she saw him falling-head first-into the deep end of the pool 10 feet away. At the same time, I saw him falling in and ran to jump in to get him. Just as I reached the side of the pool, I saw him pop up and float - just like he did in his lessons. This time, however, he was fully clothed in jeans, a long sleeve shirt, a sweatshirt, sneakers and socks, as it was a cold day. We hadn't got to that part of our lessons yet!! I pulled him right out of the pool and saw that, thankfully, he was just fine. If it wasn't for ISR I honestly don't know what would have happened. In the very least I imagine he would have been pretty traumatized and at the very worst we may have lost our son.

We will forever be grateful to ISR and to our wonderful instructor, Kristy Wexler. We will continue to recommend ISR to everyone we can. Thank you again for your wonderful program.

With Heartfelt Gratitude,

Jean & Scott P.

Kristy,

I hope you are doing well.  I just wanted to share with you an awesome success story.  This past weekend we were at a birthday party that took place at the Deerfield Aquatic pool.  The pool was the type you walk in like a beach so it goes shallow to deep.  There were many kids between the ages of 15 months and 20 months at this party.

When we first arrived a group of parents were discussing the ISR they saw on the Today show.  I immediately could not wait to tell them how Carson went through this course and how happy I was with it.  We must have talked about it for 1/2 hour with the result being that they were going to look into it for their children.  About 1 hour into the party one of the little boys 15 months old was playing in the shallow end of the pool with other kids and he just went under.  It happened so quietly that no one noticed.  Finally his dad saw him and scooped him up, but it was pretty traumatic for everyone.  Even the life guard on duty did not see the child.  He was fine, but very much rattled along with all of the parents.

Well about 1/2 hour after this incident, Carson was crawling along the side of the pool pushing a boat on the edge.  I was following him as he drove this boat all the way to the deep end.  Well what do you know the boat fell in the water and of course like most children he reached in after it and fell in.  Carson immediately flipped over on his back and started floating, and he did not even cry.  Everyone saw this and was so amazed.  This was truly a real life situation that happens everyday and it was the best "commercial" for the other parents at the party to witness.  I hope you can share this story with other moms and dads.  Talk to you soon.

Anna (18 months) and I were at the beach with several of her friends who happened to be a year or two older.  Anna was so excited to be at the beach, that she just ran into the water with her buddies following her.  She kept going until her little feet couldn't touch anymore. Her face showed a little bit of panic but once she realized she couldn't touch bottom, she automatically started to float.  I was right there the entire time but it was reassuring that she was able to put her skills to use before swim classes were even finished!  And the other moms were more nervous than I was because their children didn't know how to swim.
